Budgam, Mar 04 (KNO): The newly constructed Bailey bridge at Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district was on Wednesday thrown open for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), bringing much-needed relief to commuters who had been facing difficulties following the closure of the main bridge.
The bridge, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), was inaugurated by MLA Chadoora Ali Mohammad Dar in the presence of officials from the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, Executive Engineer (ExEn) R&B, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Sheikh Rashid, and several locals.
The Bailey bridge has been installed as an alternative route after the vital Chadoora bridge was closed for vehicular traffic due to structural damage caused by floods last year, forcing commuters to take diversion routes for the past several weeks.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Dar thanked Abdul Rahim Rather, Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly & MLA Charar-i-Sharief for his support in facilitating the installation of the Bailey bridge.
Locals expressed relief over the opening of the bridge, saying it will ease traffic congestion and help students, patients and other commuters reach their destinations without facing the hardships that had persisted since the closure of the main bridge—(KNO)
